Out of Reagents Demo

A soft grunt escaped the young feline's mouth as he rolled over, his head flopping to the side and directly into a bright beam of morning sunlight. Groaning once more as he shuffled back away from it groggily. The sun rose on that side of the house, it was a damn pain to be woken up every morning- But it was either that, or the loud thumps of his mentors cane from the floor below if he slept in too late. Moving out to the country to pursue his apprenticeship was supposed to be peaceful and relaxing. But so far it was just... Tiring, waking up at the crack of dawn every morning. Dealing with an old cranky alchemist who believed the best way for the young feline to learn was to borderline yell every instruction- and if [[Seldric->Seldric]] didn't follow them to the letter he would get a good twack across the back with the old bastards Cane. The boy slowly pushed himself up out of bed and stepped onto the old wooden floor- it //creaked// loudly, which always caught the boy off guard. He was only twelve and was rather short for his age, so it only went to show just how old and rickety the place was... Despite the fact one of the most talented alchemists was to live in this old cottage. The boy suddenly jumped to the side with a yelp as three loud ''thumps'' echoed up from the floor below... His mentor was not a patient one. Walking across the old attic turned bedroom, young Seldric passed a window that overlooked the countryside. Pausing for a moment Seldric looked to the open window, before turning and taking a few steps towards it with a little huff. Opening it up fully so he could lean out and feel the early morning breeze across his young fur. All his complaining aside, the countryside of Nahtgawr was gorgeous. He was far enough away from the boglands to avoid the rancid stench, but the soil of the area was wonderful for growing all kinds of alchemical reagents and other forms of plantlife. Seldric was a city boy all the way from Alderdeen, so looking out across the small village from the old cottage atop the hill was still a sight to behold. Rhalt was tiny, it had maybe fifty residents but was still one of the kingdom's major trading routes so it was profitable enough as a little farming town... The boy was still pretty clueless as to why his mentor had moved out to a place like this. Seldric shuddered a bit as a cold morning breeze brushed across his naked form, his ashen black fur kept him warm enough- But it was a little too early to be walking around naked with the window open! Seldric Marched across his room and towards the old wardrobe he had been given by his mentor, ignoring the old bastard's occasional thumps from below to get him to hurry up. Throwing open the doors with a huff, the young feline crossed his arms and looked over what he had brought along with him some weeks prior. //Maybe he should take a little bit to decide what to do...// [[Dress modestly, Seldric is an apprentice to a big name Alchemist after all!->Modest Boy]] [[Dress light, working in the gardens with black fur? Seldric continued along the overgrown path- if he remembered correctly there were some old ruins not too far from the village in this direction. But the more thought he put into it, the more the young feline was starting to believe he may just not be ready for the more challenging part of the woods... He would have to come back later, but for now perhaps all there is time for is the easier stuff! The young feline pivoted on his heel, chickening out at the last moment and quickly rushing back down the path so he could take the less daunting route for the time being! Seldric slowly made his way through the woodlands, following the main path through the woodlands for a good ten or so minutes. Focusing on the foliage around him as he went, ears twitching and moving side to side, the young feline hoped to find some sort of running water source. He had never been to this part of the woodlands so, he wasn't sure of any off the top of his head... But, from the rough maps he saw and the information he had learned about each of the herbs he was to find- He knew specifically that Staffshroom grew close to bodies of water, mainly lakes but also along rivers that connected to them so it was his best bet... Sadly, despite the fact Bitterbloom was somewhat common in the area he hadn't found a patch of it just, even when he stepped off the path briefly every so often to check the surrounding area before moving on again. Seldric paused for a moment as something caught his attention, turning a little bit towards the east he stopped in his tracks and focused... Listening closely, a smile spreading across his face as the familiar sound of trickling water rang true in his ears- Perfect, he could follow that! Seldric paused for a moment, his tail twitching as he scanned over each garment before... Pulling out a functional robe and some simple underclothes. Working as an alchemist meant he had to dress for utility, it did get a bit warm under all those layers... But, maybe that was better than getting dirt and grime in his fur? It was an even bigger pain to dry off after a bath, plus on top of that... It took ages to heat up a tub of water out here, the old alchemist was no mage. Seldric mindlessly pulled on the simple underclothes before pulling the robe over his head and then down across his body. Fastening a belt with a few different pounces hanging from it around his waist, dressing with functionality in mind always did make his job a little easier and made his mentor the tiniest bit happier- Seldric at least thought so... Taking out a simple set of light clothing, a pair of dark brown form fitting shorts that cut off halfway to the knees. As well as a short pale blue tunic with decorative silver trim, that was split up the center to reveal his belly button. Pulling the shorts on idly he thought back to his time in the city, he always liked to buy odd clothing that was easy to move in. His family had enough money to get custom fitted stuff, higher quality fabrics and things of that nature so he was always given plenty of choice when it came to garbs- As long as he didn't walk around public in the nude it didn't matter to them. The young feline marched down the stairs with his head held high, even if there was no one to see him do it- He was always raised to be proud of his achievements and even if this old cottage wasn't the ideal place to live... He was officially the old alchemist's apprentice now. The thought of getting to actually learn something and start developing his craft did excite young Seldric. With a newfound sense of vigor he made his way down the steps and through the tiny hallway, passing both his [[mentors room->Mentors Room]] and the [[washroom->Washroom]] along the way. Before finally stepping out into the main room of the old cottage which had been turned into an alchemist's workshop by his mentor [[Anezor->Anezor]], who turned to face the young feline as he stepped into the room. "Finally- you must get used to waking up early, some plants can only be harvested properly when dew still hangs from their leaves." Get your morning chores done, but you ARE putting something on before you head into the village to make today's deliveries. You hear me, brat?" he said with a scoff before] turning back to the large cauldron that hung in the fireplace and continuing to stir whatever concocion he had brewing this morning. It felt like it was going to be a nice day, plus he could occasionally get away with this if he just had to do some work around the house. He never liked to wear anything when lounging around back at home anyway- His parents always let him do what he wanted in that regard so as long as he got dressed whenever he went about town or they had guests over or if he was going walk around town, so he damn well expected the same treatment here! It wasn't very impressive from what Seldric remembered, in fact it was rather... crowded last time the boy dared to look. Filled with books many of which were in languages he didn't understand or contained formulas he hadn't yet been taught how to translate. Different plants either growing by the window or drying on the far wall- It always smelled like medicine in there, but perhaps that's exactly what was drying from the rack on the wall... Washroom? More like a large tub that was connected to a rain tank outside from some piping... And a bucket, Seldric loathed the bucket. It was humiliating at first to use... And still was, how can a big named alchemist not afford a proper outhouse!? (link-undo:"Continue on.")

Tuning the old fox out, Seldric started to go about his morning chores, cleaning up after any sort of mess his mentor created while preparing whatever... Noxious smelling concoction was in that pot! Putting varios viles, containers and bottles back in their proper places and then of course sweeping up the mess in case any customers came by... Not that they often did! (if:$Nudist is 1)[That's why Seldric could get away with not putting anything on until around lunch on most days.] With a quiet little sigh the boy paused for a moment and rubbed his stomach, looking over to his mentor "What should I make for breakfast?" the boy asked, his tail twitching for a moment as it swayed back and forth in anticipation for something to eat! The old fox paused for a moment and scratched his chin "Hrrm... We have some salted meats left over from when Mrs.Altrey brought them over from her husband's shop, eat some of those if you are hungry." he said, waving his hand dismissively at the boy as he continued to watch over the pot and stir, occasionally tossing something else inside. Seldric paused for a moment and grumbled... The old fox probably had already eaten something, he usually woke up before the sun was up so it made sense- So with a quiet little sigh the feline spun on his heel and went behind the desk to find something to eat. Turning to look at the old fox as he leaned against the counter and continued to eat "So- what's in the pot? Making poison today to finally get rid of the old crone at the other end of the village... Grumbling to himself as he stood there behind the counter in an attempt to hide his shame.. The old fox just scoffed again and smacked the side of the pot with his wooden stirring spoon "Bah! The fae don't grant wishes, they play tricks and toy with mortals. They will make you believe you are getting what you want and then twist it around against you- You'd best steer clear of those little cretins and if you ever find one and it offers something to you- Offer it something instead, change the subject from its offer.. Just, give it a bloody flower or something and it will leave you alone... Most likely." The old fox said with a slow shrug as he rubbed his temple "And get that look off your face, you can't wish your way to success- Back to your chores!" The fox said, almost reading the boy's mind as he mused about becoming a famous alchemist from nothing but a wish.] [[Now that breakfast is done... The boy's tail twitched for a moment as he eyed the pouch closely, he didn't recognize it. Perhaps it was kept in the old foxes room? Or maybe he just got it this morning... Regardless, the boy was too curious not to speak. He really liked studying new ingredients for potions and learning what they did! Seldric grabbed the pouch and lifted it up curiously, looking over the bag for a moment to see if there was any sort of marking on it to indicate what was inside... With a little grumble the boy found nothing and just slowly stood up as he fiddled with the twine that tied it shut "Hey Master, what's in this pouch here behind the counter?" The boy asked as he finally untied the knot and opened it up. The old fox turned for a moment to look at the boy, eyeing the pouch before he dropped the spoon and yelled "Put that down you little-" But that's all he could say before the pouch opened up and 'pomf' out came a sudden cloud of... Something, as the boy jostled the pouch around and disturbed its contents. Seldric coughed, moving the pouch away from his face and setting it down on the counter as the old fox marched over and took it to tie it back up. Seldric felt a weird.. hum, through his body as he continued to cough- trying to get whatever he breathed in out of his nose. Heat building up in his body rapidly as a sudden dizziness set in, Seldric moved to lean against the counter for a moment as he let out a confused mewl. "Ah- don't be so dramatic, boy. It isn't poison, but these sorts of things aren't good to introduce to a young person's body. They are a potent aphrodisiac- when fresh, but when old they are good for potions to help with... marital problems, many of the old farmers in the area request things such as this." The old fox sighed and glared at the boy, retying the bag and moving it over to the counter. "It's actually a type of spore, from a mushroom found in one of the local woodlands- Curious stuff, harmless to breathe in... In moderation." He sighed and walked around the counter for a moment, grabbing the bag of salted meats and forcing it into the boys hand "Just, eat your breakfast and get back to your chores." Seldric is a young Fel boy of about twelve years old with ashen black fur and bright green eyes. He has short hair which matches the color of his fur and is often styled up a little bit at the front. Being of the Fel species, a race of cat-like folk he has a naturally lithe build with no signs of baby fat despite his young age. Poor Seldric is also a bit shorter than most boys his age as well, standing around four foot three inches tall- Being a bit of a late bloomer, he is confident he will grow much taller in the coming summers! Coming from a moderately well off home in the city of Alderdeen, he always had a curiosity towards alchemy and learned to read at a much younger age than most of his peers. Due to this his parents saved up for many years until an old alchemist agreed to take on the boy as his apprentice. Seldric now has been living with the alchemist in the small country village of Rhalt for about three months now, his somewhat bratty and confident nature and the man's stern attitude clashing to an extent. An old fox in his early seventies, his orange-red fur having faded in vibrance over the years, tired blue eyes often eyeing whatever his young apprentice was doing approvingly. The man's fur was a bit long, and unkempt but not enough atop his head to allude to any hair. The old fox, though, does have a rather long gray beard that often needs to be tucked into his belt to prevent it from falling into anything the alchemist is working on- Or catching fire... The old alchemist was famed in his youth and had traveled across the many kingdoms of the realm to sell his potions and brews to nobles and royals alike. Before settling down in the city as time started to catch up with him, eventually after a bit of an accident in his lab that cost him his left index finger- and the lab itself. He elected to move out of the hustle and bustle of the city and settled in the small village of Rhalt. Spending most of his later years now experimenting with new ideas while selling different concoctions to whoever came to visit him... Originally, he wasn't planning on ever taking an apprentice- but the large sum of money offered to him quickly changed the old foxes tune. We ran out of a few things, I wrote them down on the second page along with a description of each just get what you can and be back before dark." Seldric nodded to himself as he grabbed the papers, reading over them idly as his mentor spoke "Out... Into the woodlands? Okay, but you better start teaching me some actual alchemy soon... Ohh, some of these I have read about in your books though." With a sigh Seldric hoisted the bag over his shoulder and turned away from the front door. Sticking his tongue out at his mentor playfully before starting down the hallway- Sure, the boy did honestly forget he was naked but hearing the old fox scoff was still amusing to him. Seldric wasn't usually the kind of boy to just waltz around the village naked- but the idea of annoying his mentor did make the idea seem more... Interesting. Snickering to himself and musing over the idea the boy once more looked over his deliveries before cocking his head as he realized something interesting. He only had two deliveries and both were for some old folks that each lived on the edge of the village. Technically, if he took the long way around he could probably sneakily do it all in the buff... Without being caught. Then enjoy a nice naked walk through the woodlands, now that did sound somewhat appealing! Seldric paused for a moment, his gaze drifting between the staircase that led up to his attic bedroom... Then to the bathroom door, which was open. If he remembered correctly their son had taken over the farming duty or something similar to that, arriving at the house the young feline spied around for anyone before walking through the small gate and up to the door- only for someone to speak up as he made it to the door "Can I help you?" an older man's voice said. Seldric turned to face the couple's son as he walked out from around the side of the house... From the pig pens or something maybe? "Oh! I'm just here to deliver medicine from Master Anezor." The boy said as he reached into his bag and pulled out two bottles marked with the families last name, handing them over to the half-elf that now stood before him "Same as always, both need to take a little bit in the morning and it should ease their joint pain!" The boy said as he stepped back and smiled. The half-elf nodded and took both of the bottles "Ah... Good, thanks. I will take this in for them now, and give my regards to Mr.Anezor." The man said as he gave the boy a nod and turned to open up the front door, stepping in and closing it behind him leaving Seldric to leave and continue his work.](if:$Nudist is 1)[Seldric quietly stepped into the bathroom and over towards the window, holding into it tightly as he unlatched the wood and ever so slowly opened it up. Doing his best to avoid any creaking sounds before... Hop! He jumped up and vaulted himself out the window and onto the dirt below. Nearly yelping as the bottles in his satchel clinked together loudly from the landing, staying there crouched for a moment as he held the bag and... Waited. After a moment, he remembered Anezor was somewhat hard of hearing so, he got up and snickered to himself before making his way around back and slinking off into the woods. Taking the long way down the hill and around the village, naked as the day he was born~ The first delivery was only maybe six or seven minutes away on foot, but it took a bit longer having to steadily make his way down the hill and then trek through the woods... Maybe he should have put boots on at least, but there was no turning back now! The old couple's farming home was in sight, so he crouched and spied around, he didn't want to flash an old lady today. He was a polite young lad incapable of doing such a thing! The nude feline watched the house for a minute, his sensitive ears catching some noise from around the side of it- as an older half-elf stepped out from the pig pens and started to tidy up the area.. Quickly making his way to the house the boy kept close to the wall and made his way around the opposite side he had seen their son working. Creeping up to the door and quietly setting down the bottles next to the bottom step causing them to clink together, before he snickered... This was kind of fun! "Someone there?" Shaking his head, Seldric decided it was best not to tempt fate and with that he turned away from the bathroom and made his way up into the attic. Back to his familiar wardrobe so he could decide... What to wear? He was more likely to find various herbs that hadn't been picked by others just yet, that's what his mentor had told him to try and do at least. Checking over the notes he scanned a few of the requirements... Staffshroom spores, Bitterbloom stalk, Sableroot and finally a few Drasilplant Bulbs... Drasil plant? If he remembered that one was pretty dangerous, liked to snag and throw people around. But if you approached it early in the morning it was pretty docile, his mentor's words rang through his head again- //'some plants can only be harvested properly when dew still hangs from their leaves.'// Damn old coot... Sableroot mainly grew around rocky areas or ruins, Bitterbloom grew pretty commonly in the deeper parts of the forest but last he remembered Staffshroom only grew close to the lake- the name also sounded somewhat familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it just yet. The notes didn't say what they did, only information on what they looked like... Seldric stepped out of the woods and around the side of the small house, peering around the corner for anyone there... No one tended to the gardens and the rest of the village was on the opposite side- he should be fine, plus if his memory served this was for a mother whose child was sick soo.. She was most likely tending to the little tyke. With a nod he made his way to the front and paused, spotting an open window he reached up and set the bottle of medicine on it before giving the door two quick knocks "Medicine delivery!" He said, a bit too loudly before he quickly turned and rushed back around the side of the house and once more, into the woods.] Stepping away from the property he looked at the notes again, his mentor wanted him to check the southern forest. And looking out over the stream, there was no doubt that at some point the water must have flowed down this ledge and into this run off, but something had piled these rocks here and blocked most of the flow off. Seldric hummed to himself quietly, musing over the idea of what could have done this. But based on the moss growing on the rocks along with the mud and everything else built up along its edges, they had probably been here a fairly long time... Still, it was an amusing little discovery! With a little sigh the boy wandered the area for a bit, seeking out any mushrooms or.. Seldric watched the water closely as he continued to venture upstream, spotting a few fish swimming about here and there... Sighing slightly the boy rubbed his stomach, watching one zip down stream. Shaking his head he sighed once more and turned on his heel. He had to at least make a little bit of progress before he could validate taking a break! Eventually, Seldric noticed the tree line was getting closer to the river bank and the density of the forest was starting to increase, it was starting to get a little bit harder to keep close to the river bank so he eventually had to start making his way around trees constantly. That's when something caught his nose... A strangely sweet scent, it was very faint. A sudden breeze allowed the boy to take another sniff, a little shiver running down the boy's spine. He felt just... A little bit flushed(if:$Spore is 1)[- similar to what had happened earlier that morning..]. Seldric slowly made his way a bit further from the riverbank, following the scent until he could see... Mist, fog? It was a light orange in color, but the boy dared not get too close to figure out what it was exactly. Traveling a little ways away from the perimeter of the strange cloud as he studied the area, eventually something caught his eye. A fair way into the strange cloud he could see a large cluster of mushrooms, tall ones that seemed to shudder every so often... And let out a strange mist, similar to the fog... That's when it clicked, Staffshroom gave off an odd spore that often hung around in the air to get carried off by the breeze. Those spores would then land in new areas and start another patch... But, it didn't often grow even after it landed due to requiring specific conditions. The further he walked, the more mushrooms he was able to spot in the distance. It was a huge patch of them, nearly every tree a good ten feet past the wall of spores had a large cluster of mushrooms growing under it. Tapping his chin and thinking back to what he had read... He remembered the stuff was pretty potent, it was known for driving both animals and people somewhat crazy once it was in their system and took a few hours to get through... And based on the color, scent and the slight warmth in the boys loints, it was very likely that the powder in the pouch was the same stuff. Seldric stepped a little ways back from the cloud of spores, debating on what to do next... He could avoid the area outright and just keep going. Maybe he will find a safer, smaller patch on his way towards the lake, or he could try something and make his way through the cloud to collect some... Seldric quietly sighed to himself, stepping towards the cloud of spores with a slow nod. This was likely the same stuff that was in the pouch his mentor had under the counter, it was pretty potent stuff- But from what he remembered about Staffshrooms it only took effect when it was inhaled. Digging through his bag, Seldric moved the various bottles and containers aside until he found something- A cloth! He was going to use this to wrap Sableroot in later, but for now it would have to do. Wrapping the cloth around his face the boy folded it once and tied it in place just above his nose, causing it to hang down over his mouth.(set: $Memory to 1) Just to be safe Seldric kept his hand pressed against the cloth to help create a seal around his mouth... Hopefully the spores weren't small enough to get through, so with a deep breath the boy passed the threshold of spores and hastily walked towards the closest patch of mushrooms. He was only able to hold his breath for a couple seconds, kneeling in front of the mushrooms and taking a small slow breath. He felt a bit woozy... But, no more than when he had smelled it from a distance. Not wanting to waste any time, the young feline used his free hand to quickly rip a few mushrooms from their stalks and tossed them in a jar. His eyes had started to sting, so he didn't even bother closing the jar before he got up and rushed back out of the spores. Making his way towards the river and dropping to his knees at the bank, with a quick grunt the boy dunked his head in the water and pulled the cloth down. Holding his breath for just a few more seconds as he shook his head side to side with his eyes open. Seldric gasped the moment his head broke free from the water, grumbling quietly to himself as he sat there... His eyes still stung a little bit, but that helped... He could still see a slight orange tint (if:$Nudist is 1)[to his fur](if:$Nudist is not 1)[on his clothes] from being in the spores, so he took his time to carefully wash himself at the river just to be safe. Once all was said and done, he finally placed the opening on the jar and twisted it on tightly. Nodding slowly to himself and hopping back up to his feet "Well... That's done." Seldric flicked his tail side to side for a moment as he stared across the river... It was still pretty early, no doubt a bit chilly. But it still sounded nice and refreshing, he had gotten used to bathing in cold water staying at Anezors place. So as a grin spread across his face slowly he stepped forward and dipped a toe in the water, taking off his satchel and setting it aside. The boy felt a chill run up his spine, brrr! But that didn't dissuade him, the young feline jumped forward and right into the water without any hesitation. Yelping a bit as the cold water splashed up across his body, Seldric stumbling forward a little as he sank up to his knees. Snickering a little bit Seldric slowly stepped deeper and deeper into the water, carefully choosing his steps. If a rock felt too slimy he shifted and moved to the one next to it, eventually he made it out to the middle of the river and let out a happy sigh. Now up to his waist he could easily stretch his arms out and flop right back into the water. Giggling a bit as the chilly river water splashed across his whole body before he was quickly submerged in it. Keeping himself under the water for just a few seconds as his body adjusted before bursting back out and laughing "Ohh! Way too cold haha, I shoulda waited until after lunch time.. Brr!" He said to himself, splashing about in the water a bit. The young feline enjoyed himself in the water for a good little bit, swimming around and attempting to catch a few fish. Not really achieving much aside from pissing off the local crawfish population before finally laying back in the water and floating for a while, letting out a happy sigh as he let the river take him downstream a little bit. He had only let the current take him for a few minutes, bathing in the morning sunlight as it beamed down against his dark fur. It was pretty slow, so he saw no harm in just... Relaxing, for the first time in a while. He was going to have a pretty tough day after all. But as the boy rolled onto his stomach and stood up in the river, he realized something... The water was much deeper there, now almost reaching his shoulders- and he couldn't actually see his satchel anywhere near him. Scanning the river bank he grumbled a bit, using his hand to block the sunlight that was beaming down from above him. Denik is an older wolf who is in his late twenties, possibly early thirties at the oldest. Seldric paused for a moment "So, you live out here then? I mean you are a pretty good distance away from any village now that I think about it..." the boy thought that sounded pretty crazy, it took him a while to get used to living in a small village- Out here would be a pretty big shock! The old wolf nodded "Aye, I moved out here a while back. But I think it suits me better, I go into the villages when I need to. The woods and the river give me enough to live off of and when I really need other supplies I seek them out." Denik said, stating his reasons with confidence.
